Disciple set out in search of useless thing.
First thing came to his mind was soil.
As he extended his hand towards soil to pick it, soil said, “Do you consider me useless? Don’t you know that all things in this world comes from me?”
Disciple realized that soil was not useless.
He moved ahead and saw a stone, as soon as he extended his hand to take it, a voice came from stone, “Why are you considering me useless? What do you think your buildings and mansions come from?”
Disciple realized that he was wrong. He pulled his hand back.
He started thinking, “What can be useless?”
Then a voice came from his mind that every substance in this universe is useful in itself, then what is it that he can give to his Guru?
On way, he met a saint. Disciple told him his story.
Saint smiled and said, “Young man, things that have no direct use in our life are not useless. Rather useless thing is those which cannot do any good to anyone.
Ego within a person is only element which had no use anywhere.”
Hearing this, disciple went straight to his Guru and fell at his feet. He had come to give his Ego as Gurudakshina to his Guru.
