Teacher Teaching Student Power of Association

Teacher Teaching Student Power of AssociationOne day, a teacher was on a walk with his students. As they strolled along a garden path, the teacher was trying to explain the importance of good company. However, the students were having difficulty understanding the true meaning behind his words.

Just then, the teacher noticed a rose plant blooming with beautiful flowers nearby. He stopped and asked one of the students to pick up a lump of soil from beneath the rose bush.

The student quickly brought the lump of soil to the teacher.

The teacher then said, “Now smell this soil.”

The student smelled it and responded with surprise, “This soil smells just like roses!”

The teacher smiled and explained, “Do you know how this ordinary soil came to smell so fragrant?

It’s because petals from the rose flowers kept falling and mixing into the soil. Over time, the soil absorbed the fragrance of the roses. This is the power of association.

He continued, “Just like this soil, which has taken on the scent of the roses it was close to, people also absorb qualities – both good and bad of those they spend time with. That is why it is said that being in the company of good people can uplift you, while bad company can bring you down.
