Once upon a time, a young man distressed by poverty went to a river intending to end his life. There he met a sage who stopped him and asked why he was so troubled.
Young man shared his entire story.
After listening carefully, Sage said, “I have a magical skill that can create an enchanted pot. Whatever you ask from this pot, it will provide. However, the day this pot breaks, everything it has ever given you will disappear instantly.”
Sage continued, “If you stay in my ashram and serve for TWO years, I will give you this magical pot. But if you stay for FIVE years, I will teach you how to make the pot yourself. What do you choose?”
Young man replied, “Master! I would prefer to serve only two years. I want the pot as soon as possible. I will take good care of it and never let it break.”
So, after serving in the ashram for two years, the young man received the magical pot and returned home.
He used the pot to fulfill all his desires. He built a house, then a palace, asked for servants and riches. He began flaunting his wealth and grandeur. Eventually, he started drinking heavily.
One day, while dancing with the magical pot on his head, he tripped. Pot fell and shattered. Instantly, everything he had gained vanished.
Young man was left in deep regret, thinking, “If only I hadn’t been so hasty! If I had learned the art of making the pot, I wouldn’t be poor again today.”
Conclusion:
True success doesn’t lie in instant rewards, but in long-term understanding, patience and self-control.
