In a faraway kingdom, a wise but moody King kept a vast orchard within his palace walls. The garden was filled with every kind of fruit, and a farmer, along with his family, tended to it faithfully.
One morning, the farmer noticed that many fruits had ripened at once – coconuts, guavas, plums, and bunches of sweet grapes.
He wondered, “What shall I offer the King today?”
After a moment’s thought, he chose the grapes, gently filled a basket and carried them to the palace.
When he arrived, King seemed troubled, his face clouded with anger. Quietly, the farmer placed the basket at his feet and waited respectfully.
King absentmindedly popped a grape into his mouth. Then, without thinking, he picked another grape and flicked it at the farmer. The grape struck his forehead. The farmer, instead of showing anger, simply said:
“How merciful God is.”
King repeated this again and again, he would eat one grape, throw the next at the farmer. Each time, the farmer calmly repeated the same words.
After a while, the King realized how harsh he had been. Feeling guilty, he asked, “Why do you thank God when I am treating you unfairly?”
Farmer bowed and replied softly, “My King, the orchard had coconuts, guavas as well as plums today. I could have chosen any of them but i chose grapes.
Imagine, if instead of these tender grapes, you had struck me with a coconut or a heavy guava, what would have become of me then? That is why I say, God is merciful.”

In Life, many difficulties that could harm us are softened before they reach us. But instead of Noticing how our burdens are made Lighter, we often complain about the Troubles we face. Gratitude allows us to see God’s mercy even in small hardships.
