One day, a young man, burdened by stress and failure, went to a wise sage.
He said, “Life feels too heavy. Nothing goes right, people don’t understand me, and my mind is always restless. I don’t know what to do.”
Sage smiled gently and said, “Come, let’s have a cup of tea first.”
He boiled water, added tea leaves, poured in milk, and began filling a cup. But as the tea reached the brim, the sage kept pouring. The tea overflowed, spilling everywhere.
Startled, the young man exclaimed, “Gurudev! The cup is full! Why are you still pouring? Everything is spilling!”
Sage looked at him calmly and said, “Exactly. Your mind is like this cup – already full of stress, negativity, and complaints. Unless you empty it, how can peace, wisdom, or joy enter?”
Young man reflected in silence.
Then Sage added, “And if you’re not able to empty it right away, then start filling it with good things — positive thoughts, your honest efforts, patience, and hope. With time, the unnecessary will overflow and fade away. What remains will be calm and clear.”
Learning:
Sometimes, we need to let go to grow. And sometimes, we grow by gently replacing the old with the good. Peace doesn’t always come by force – but by gentle, steady change.
