Once upon a time, there was a city located by a river. One year, there was heavy rainfall, which caused the river to change its course. This led to a water shortage in the city, to the point where the people couldn’t even find drinking water.
Gradually, the people left the city and over time, the city became completely deserted, leaving only the rats behind, who made the abandoned city their kingdom.
One day, a water source emerged from the ground, forming a large pond. Nearby, there was a jungle, home to many wild animals, including a herd of elephants, with Gajraj as their leader. Soon, a terrible drought struck the jungle and all the animals, including the elephants, were in desperate need of water.
Gajraj, along with the other elephants, decided to head towards the abandoned city where they had heard of the water source.
On their way, however, the elephants trampled many rats underfoot, as they walked through the rat-infested city. This continued for several days, with more rats being killed by the elephants’ heavy feet.
Eventually, the news reached the King of the Rats, Mooshkaraj. Mooshkaraj was deeply troubled and decided to speak with Gajraj about the situation.
Mooshkaraj traveled to the jungle, where he found Gajraj standing under a large tree. Mooshkaraj climbed a stone and respectfully addressed the elephant, “Gajraj, I am Mooshkaraj, the king of the rats who live in the abandoned city. I humbly request that you and your herd avoid walking through our city, as many of my subjects are being crushed underfoot. Please find another path to the water.”
Gajraj, not realizing the harm he was causing, listened intently. He lowered his head to hear Mooshkaraj more clearly and replied, “I did not know we were causing such damage. We will find another way to the water.”
Mooshkaraj, relieved, thanked Gajraj and said, “If ever you need my help, please don’t hesitate to call on me.”
Gajraj, though grateful, thought that such a small creature could never help him and smiled as he bid Mooshkaraj farewell.
Days passed and all seemed well. However, one day, Gajraj learned that a neighboring king was capturing elephants to strengthen his army. Gajraj became anxious, worrying for the safety of his herd. One night, while walking in the jungle, Gajraj accidentally stepped on a hidden trap and got caught in a net. Despite his struggles, he couldn’t free himself.
A buffalo, who owed his life to Gajraj for saving him once, heard Gajraj’s cries and rushed to help.
“Gajraj, I will do anything to help you. I will give my life, if necessary,” the buffalo said.
Gajraj, in pain, said, “Please go quickly to the city and tell Mooshkaraj what has happened. He will know how to help.”
The buffalo hurried to Mooshkaraj, who immediately set out with his soldiers to rescue Gajraj. The rats, using their sharp teeth, cut through the net and freed Gajraj.
Gajraj was deeply grateful and thanked Mooshkaraj for his help. The friendship between Gajraj and Mooshkaraj grew stronger, and they lived happily, helping each other whenever needed.
Moral of the Story:
