Camel and Hyena Story – One Depth Two Perspectives

Camel and Hyena Story - One Depth Two PerspectivesIt was a hot summer day. In the jungle, a hyena was suffering from intense thirst, wandering here and there in search of water.

While roaming, he spotted a river in the distance. From afar, the river seemed to have little water, but still, he ran and quickly quenched his thirst. After drinking to his fill, the hyena felt completely satisfied.

Now he thought, “It’s quite hot—why not bathe in the clean, fresh water in the middle of the river?”

But he didn’t know how deep the river was.

Hyena asked a nearby camel, “How deep is the water in the river? I won’t drown while bathing, right?”

Grinning and baring his teeth, camel replied, “The water is only up to my knees. I just bathed and came out. Go ahead, you can bathe too.”

Hearing this, the hyena jumped right into the middle of the river. But suddenly, he began to drown. He would sink, then barely lift his head out of the water to gasp for air. Somehow, he managed to save himself and came back out.

As soon as he got out, he angrily shouted at the camel, “You fool! Why did you say the water was only knee-deep? I almost drowned!”

Camel replied calmly, “Why are you getting so angry, child? I told you the truth – the water is up to my knees. Now if you didn’t understand that what can I do?”

After that, the hyena realized his mistake.
