A saint used to live with his disciples.
One day, one of the disciples came to the saint and requested, “Guru ji! My sister’s wedding is in a month. I would like to go there for ten days. Kindly bless me! It would be wonderful if you could come too.”
Saint replied, “My son, time will tell whether I can come or not, but I will definitely send you.”
Disciple continued to hint to the saint in hopes that he would receive some help. Finally, the day came.
Disciple said, “Guruji, I will be leaving tomorrow morning.”
Saint said, “Alright, my son!”
Next morning, as the disciple was about to leave, Saint gave him five kilograms of pomegranates and said, “Take these. May God bless your sister’s wedding to be so grand that the world remembers it. Take these two fellow disciples with you. Complete the wedding and return.”
As they left the ashram and walked some distance, the disciple whose sister’s wedding it was told the others, “Guruji knew we have nothing, and yet he didn’t help me financially.”
Two days later, they reached his home. It was in a sandy region of Rajasthan where no crops or trees grew. Around the same time, the daughter of the local King fell seriously ill.
Royal physician said, “If this girl is given this medicine along with pomegranate juice, she will recover.”
King announced publicly, “Whoever has pomegranates will be greatly rewarded.”
A town crier loudly called, “If anyone has pomegranates, come quickly – King needs them urgently!”
Hearing this, the disciples went to the crier and said they had pomegranates. They were taken to the king. The pomegranates were juiced and given with the medicine and the princess recovered.
King asked, “Where are you from?”
Disciple told the whole story.
After listening to this story, King declared, “Then I will take responsibility for your sister’s wedding.”
King ordered a wedding so grand that people would think it was a royal marriage.
Every guest received gifts of gold and silver. The bride was given great wealth. Her parents were given land, a luxurious house and lots of money. The bride left happily.
True Saint’s words carry power – but we often fail to understand. Whatever they speak manifests. We should follow and trust their words. You never know when, in their divine joy, they might turn a beggar into a king.
Reflections:
Trust in Your Guru: When a saint, guru, or wise person gives a blessing or advice, accept it with faith, not doubt. No matter how things look, their words are never in vain.
Be Patient in Every Situation: Disciple felt disappointed receiving only pomegranates instead of financial help. But patience brought a life-changing opportunity.
Situations Often Carry Hidden Opportunities: Carrying pomegranates into a desert may have seemed pointless but they became a divine blessing. Nothing in life is meaningless.
Conclusion:
Even those who seem to do “nothing” for us may end up doing everything – if their heart is pure and their blessings are sincere.
