Once upon a time, a saint was living in a small hut in a forest. There was a river nearby. Saint used to chant God name all day long and was living happily eating fruits found in forest.
Near his hut, big bamboo trees had grown a lot.
Saint knew how to make baskets from bamboo. So, one day while chanting mantras, he made a basket from bamboo. Basket was beautiful and strong.
Looking at basket saint thought that it is of no use to me. Thinking this, he threw the basket in river.
Now, saint used to make basket every day, while chanting God’s name and then threw those baskets in the river. He like making basket and his time used to pass doing it.
He kept making them for days.
But, one day saint thought, there is no benefit of making those basket as he was just throwing them in river, and it was not of any use to even other. So, he stopped making those baskets.
One day, while walking along bank of river, he saw an old woman sitting on bank, crying.
Saint asked her the reason for her crying.
Old woman saint, “Till few days ago, beautiful basket used to float in this river every day. I used to take out that basket and sell it in nearby village. Money i got from that was my livelihood, my only source of earning.
But now basket had stopped coming and it is getting very difficult for me to arrange food. That’s why i am sad.”
Saint felt sad after listening to that woman.
He immediately came back to his hut and made a bamboo basket and floated it in the river. From that day, he started making those baskets daily and send them floating in river.
