Once there was a great saint who wished to build his own ashram. For this, he met with many people and had to travel from one place to another.
During one of his journeys, he met a simple young girl named Vidushi.
Vidushi welcomed him warmly and requested that he rest in her hut for a while. Pleased by her sweet nature, the saint accepted her invitation.
Vidushi served the saint delicious food cooked with her own hands. For his rest, she laid out a mat on a wooden cot, while she herself slept on a simple straw mat on the floor.
As soon as Vidushi lay down, she fell into a peaceful sleep. Her expression showed she was in deep, blissful rest.
On the other hand, saint couldn’t sleep on the cot. He was used to a thick, soft mattress that had been gifted to him by his followers. The whole night, he kept wondering how Vidushi could sleep so peacefully on such a hard surface.
At dawn, when young woman wakes up, saint asked her, “How could you sleep so peacefully on this hard floor?”
She replied simply and humbly, “Guru ji, to me, this little hut feels as grand as a palace. If I get even one meal a day, I consider myself fortunate.
After a day of honest work, when I lie down on this floor, it feels like I am resting in a mother’s lap. I sleep peacefully while reflecting on my good deeds. I don’t even feel that I am sleeping on a hard surface.”
Hearing this, saint prepared to leave.
Vidushi asked, “Guru ji, may I accompany you to collect donations for the ashram?”
Saint gently replied, “Child, wisdom you gave me today has shown me where true peace lies. I no longer wish to build an ashram.”
Saying this, saint returned to his land, distributed all the money he had collected among the poor, and built a humble hut for himself where he lived in peace.

Day we learn to fill our hearts with awareness instead of wealth, that very day happiness will become permanent in our lives.
